Shot of Cool Fall Air Drops Florida Panhandle Lows Into the 40s Wednesday as Tampa, Orlando and Fort Myers Wake Up in the 60s
TALLAHASSEE, FL — A refreshing shot of cool air is sweeping across Florida on Wednesday morning, delivering a true taste of fall to much of the state. Morning lows will dip into the 40s across the Florida Panhandle, while North Florida wakes up in the 50s and temperatures in the 60s reach as far south as Southwest Florida. Only the far southeastern coast, including Miami and Palm Beach, will stay near the 70-degree mark.
Panhandle Feels the Coldest Air
The coolest readings in the state will be found across the Florida Panhandle, where clear skies and dry air allow temperatures to fall efficiently overnight. Crestview is expected to drop to around 47 degrees, making it one of the chilliest spots in the state on Wednesday morning.
Farther east, Tallahassee is forecast to reach a low near 48 degrees. Residents heading out early for work or school will want a jacket or sweatshirt, as the crisp morning air marks a sharp contrast from the warm and humid conditions that dominate much of the year.
North Florida Wakes Up in the 50s
Across North Florida, morning temperatures will settle into the low to mid 50s. Gainesville is expected to see a low near 52 degrees, while Jacksonville dips to around 54 degrees. These readings are well below typical summer lows and offer a comfortable, fall-like start to the day.
The cool air will make for pleasant conditions during morning walks, school drop-offs, and outdoor activities, though temperatures will warm steadily once the sun climbs higher.
Central and Southwest Florida in the 60s
The cooler air mass will reach deep into the Florida Peninsula, bringing morning lows in the 60s to Central and Southwest Florida. Tampa is forecast to drop to around 62 degrees, while Orlando reaches a low near 63 degrees.
Farther south along the Gulf Coast, Fort Myers is expected to see a low near 64 degrees. While these readings may not seem cold to visitors from northern states, they mark a noticeable change for residents accustomed to muggy mornings in the 70s.
South Florida Stays Mild
South Florida will remain on the warmer side of the cool air mass. Palm Beach is forecast to see a morning low near 70 degrees, while Miami holds around 71 degrees. Still, lower humidity may make the air feel more comfortable than usual for this time of year.
Lower Humidity Adds to the Fall Feel
Along with the cooler temperatures, the incoming air mass is bringing lower humidity across much of the state. Drier air makes mornings feel crisper and afternoons more pleasant, giving many Floridians a welcome break from the sticky conditions common through summer and early fall.
Afternoon temperatures are expected to warm into comfortable ranges under mostly sunny skies, creating ideal conditions for outdoor plans, fall festivals, and evening activities.
Enjoying a Taste of Fall
Cool mornings like this are a rare treat across much of Florida in October. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the pleasant weather while it lasts, as warmer and more humid air can return quickly in the weeks ahead.
