Robbie Savage began his Peterborough United reign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town Under-21s, securing a place in the last 32 of the EFL Trophy, according to BBC Sport. The result also confirmed that holders Luton would progress to the knockout stage.
Harry Leonard scored twice for Posh, whose four goals came in a 10-minute spell during the first half. That burst of scoring provided the decisive passage of a comprehensive opening win for their new manager.
Savage had left National League side Forest Green Rovers to replace Luke Williams at Peterborough. The appointment gave him his first managerial role in the EFL, and his first match in charge delivered qualification in the Jersey Mike's Trophy.
Luton qualify after Peterborough victory
For Luton, Peterborough's result settled their passage to the last 32 with five points from two games, BBC Sport reported. The holders had collected two of those points through a penalty shootout victory against Colchester United on Saturday.
Those points, followed by Peterborough's win over Ipswich's academy side, were enough to ensure the Hatters would continue their trophy defence into the knockout rounds.
Bradford and Huddersfield secure knockout places
Bradford City also booked their place with a 4-0 victory at Rotherham United. Michael Duff watched from the stands, while interim manager Mark Trueman took charge of the Bantams for the qualifying win, according to the BBC report.
Huddersfield progressed with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Rochdale. Samson Tovide marked only his second appearance for the Terriers with his first goal for the club, while Jamie Spencer supplied the fifth goal to complete the scoring.
Wycombe progress as MK Dons hit seven
Wycombe joined the teams through to the next round by beating Bristol Rovers 4-1. Emre Tezgel contributed two goals to the victory that secured the League One club's progression.
Elsewhere in the southern section, Stevenage, Cambridge and MK Dons each recorded a second win from two games with victories on Tuesday. Aaron Collins scored a hat-trick for MK Dons in their 7-1 defeat of Brentford Under-21s.
Despite that heavy loss, Brentford's academy side retain a route into the knockout stage: BBC Sport reported that they will still qualify if they win their final group game against Crawley.
