Robin Gosens has completed a move to Schalke 04 from Fiorentina, but he didn't hold back in his farewell message, expressing bitterness at how his time in Florence ended.
The transfer was confirmed on Thursday, with the Bundesliga 2 side taking the 32-year-old on loan with an obligation to buy for a reported €2.5 million plus add-ons. Gosens, who was under contract with the Serie A club until 2028, found himself surplus to requirements after new coach Fabio Grosso took charge.
Frozen out of pre-season
Gosens was informed that he was not in Grosso's plans and was told to skip pre-season training, effectively forcing his hand. With no path back into the squad, he quickly agreed to join the club he supported as a child.
Emotional and bitter goodbye
In a lengthy social media post, Gosens did not hide his frustration with the Fiorentina hierarchy. He wrote:
"I did not expect it to end this way. I still don't understand what happened."
The message reflected the shock and disappointment of a player who had become a fan favourite during his time in Tuscany.

Now back in Germany, Gosens will aim to help Schalke 04 secure promotion to the top flight. The emotional return to his boyhood club could be the fresh start he needs after a painful exit from Italy.
