Newly promoted Women's Super League side Crystal Palace have announced the signing of experienced England striker Bethany England on a free transfer.
The 32-year-old, who left Tottenham Hotspur at the end of her contract this summer, has agreed a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months. England will wear the number nine shirt for the Eagles.
England brings a wealth of top-flight experience to Palace, having won four WSL titles, two Women's FA Cups and two Women's League Cups during a trophy-laden seven-year spell at Chelsea. She also helped Tottenham establish themselves as a competitive force in the division, leaving as the club's all-time leading WSL goalscorer with 32 goals.
"It feels great to sign for Crystal Palace. I'm very excited to be here, and I'm looking forward to meeting all the girls and getting started," England told the club's official website. "Palace are an ambitious club. They've been in the WSL before, they've had two amazing promotions now, and I think you can see their investment in the women's game. They're really pushing to be among the best, and they've got amazing facilities. It's a place where I hope that I can make a lot of good memories, score a lot of goals, and make some history for the football club."
The striker also has 26 England caps, scoring 11 goals, and was part of the Lionesses squad that won Euro 2022 and reached the final of the 2023 Women's World Cup. Across her career, she has netted 87 WSL goals, a tally that underlines her pedigree as a proven top-tier scorer.
What England brings to Palace
Palace secured an immediate return to the WSL by finishing runners-up in the second tier last season after being relegated in 2025. Manager Jo Potter views England’s arrival as a statement of intent for the campaign ahead.
"We are absolutely delighted to have Bethany here at Palace," said Potter. "She has scored goals wherever she has gone, and I am sure she will be crucial for us next season."
England’s leadership, physical presence and clinical finishing will be vital for a side aiming to re-establish itself among the elite. Having captained Tottenham, she also adds invaluable experience to a squad that will need to adapt quickly to the demands of the WSL.
