Hibernian will face Kosovan side Malisheva in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League later this month, after the Kosovan club completed a stunning comeback against Vllaznia.
Malisheva, runners-up in the Kosovo Superleague last season, overturned a 2-1 first-leg deficit with a 5-0 thrashing at home on Wednesday, sealing a 6-2 aggregate victory. The emphatic win sets up a tie with David Gray’s side, who are ranked more than 100 places higher in UEFA’s club coefficients.
Fixture details
First leg: Malisheva vs Hibernian – 23 July
Second leg: Hibernian vs Malisheva – Easter Road, 30 July
Hibernian, who finished fifth in the Scottish Premiership last season, will be firm favourites to progress to the next round. The Edinburgh club are looking to build on a solid domestic campaign and make an impact in European competition.
Manager David Gray will be keen to avoid any slip-ups against the Kosovan outfit, especially in the away leg, before returning to a packed Easter Road.
The draw for the third qualifying round will take place shortly after the second legs are completed. Should Hibernian advance, they could face seeded opposition as they continue their quest for a group stage berth.
