Cain returns home
Hannah Cain has completed an emotional return to Everton following the expiry of her contract with Leicester City. The 27-year-old Wales striker, who originally signed her first professional deal with the Toffees in July 2018, described it as a "full-circle moment."
"I am over the moon to be back," Cain told evertontv. "Goodison is such an amazing place and it is nice to finally be in it as a home team player. I am really excited to be a part of it."
Cain spent two years on Merseyside before joining Leicester, where she played a key role before their relegation from the Women's Super League last season. She left the Foxes in June after her contract expired.
The forward has 26 caps for Wales and grabbed crucial goals, including the winner against the Republic of Ireland that sent the Red Dragons to their first major tournament, and a strike against England at Euro 2025.
"I signed my first professional contract at Everton, so it is a full-circle moment for me, which is really nice. Coming back here, it feels like it is home for me," she added.
Everton's women's team now play home matches at Goodison Park, something Cain sees as a sign of the game's growth. "Having Goodison as our home shows how far the game has come. When I first signed, we played out of the city."
The move provides a boost for Everton as they look to strengthen their attack. Cain's experience and international pedigree could prove vital. She made an immediate impact in her first spell and will now aim to replicate that form.
