Coventry City Close In on £17m Deal for Eintracht Frankfurt's Amenda
Coventry City are on the verge of completing a deal worth more than £17 million for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Aurele Amenda, as the newly promoted Premier League side look to bolster their squad for the top flight.
The Switzerland centre-back is set to cost an initial £15.4m with a further £1.7m in performance-related add-ons. Amenda has agreed a four-year contract and was persuaded by a strong pitch from manager Frank Lampard and Coventry’s recruitment team.
Who is Aurele Amenda?
Amenda, who featured 42 times for Frankfurt after joining from Young Boys in his homeland, was part of the Switzerland squad that reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup this summer, although he did not make an appearance at the tournament. His potential arrival would represent a statement signing for the Sky Blues ahead of their first top-flight campaign in 25 years.

Building for the Premier League
Amenda would become Coventry’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of winger Loum Tchaouna from Burnley and midfielder Frank Onyeka, who made his loan move from Brentford permanent. The Sky Blues remain in the market for a goalkeeper and have been pursuing Carl Rushworth of Brighton, though a deal has yet to be agreed. Chelsea's Filip Jorgensen is viewed as an alternative option.
Lampard's Project Takes Shape
After renewing his contract earlier this summer, manager Frank Lampard is wasting no time in assembling a squad capable of competing in the Premier League. Coventry have already begun pre-season preparations, suffering a narrow 3-2 friendly defeat to AFC Wimbledon behind closed doors, with fixtures against Northampton Town and Espanyol to come.
