Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Emily Ramsey on a free transfer from Everton, adding depth to their squad ahead of the new Women's Super League campaign. The 25-year-old, who spent the last three seasons at Everton after an initial loan spell from Manchester United, becomes Villa's latest acquisition.
Ramsey's career has included loan stints at Sheffield United, West Ham, and Birmingham City while on United's books, and she helped the Red Devils win the second-tier title in 2018-19. "It felt like the right time for a new challenge," she said. "I'm excited to play at Villa Park on the right side of the team, get to know the players and see what we can achieve together this season."
Despite not yet earning a senior cap, Ramsey was part of the England squad that won the 2023 Arnold Clark Cup and has been called into a senior training camp. Villa's director of women's football, Marisa Ewers, praised her as "a goalkeeper with strong experience in the WSL and a record of development."
Elsewhere, Crystal Palace have sealed the signing of former Tottenham Hotspur captain Bethany England on a two-year deal, with an option for a further year. The 32-year-old arrives on a free transfer, as first reported by The Guardian.
In another move, Birmingham City have signed centre-back Millie Turner from Manchester United for a fee understood to be around £100,000. Turner, 30, made 189 appearances in eight years at United, winning the 2024 Women's FA Cup.
"This is where I want to be," Turner said. "The way that the girls fight for each other and play for each other, it's something that I really want to be part of. It's an exciting project and I think there's no ceiling to what we can achieve here."
United's director of football, Matt Johnson, added: "Millie's contribution has been immense, she is a great professional and a fantastic leader, and has played a vital role in everything we have achieved throughout the last eight years."
The moves are part of a busy transfer window in the Women's Super League, with clubs strengthening squads for the upcoming season.
