Arsenal's interest intensifies
Arsenal have identified Morgan Rogers as their primary forward target this summer, and an official approach to Aston Villa is now anticipated. Sky Sports News understands that while no direct club-to-club negotiations have taken place yet, the Gunners' pursuit is set to accelerate following England's World Cup exit and after agreeing a £34m deal for Christos Tzolis.
The 23-year-old England international, who has 21 caps, scored 14 goals and provided 11 assists in 55 appearances last season. Rogers' rise from a £16m signing from Middlesbrough in 2024 to a talismanic figure at Villa Park has been meteoric, attracting interest from Europe's elite clubs.
Why Rogers fits Arteta's plan
With Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze already at the Emirates, Mikel Arteta views Rogers primarily as a left-sided forward—a role he occupied for roughly 45% of his Premier League minutes last term. The impending arrival of Tzolis and the departure of Leandro Trossard have created a need for a dynamic left winger.
Rogers' versatility is a major attraction. He has operated as an attacking midfielder, a false nine, and even on the right wing, where he assisted Anthony Gordon in England's World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina. The £100m hurdle
Villa are under no pressure to sell. Rogers signed a new contract until 2031 last November, and manager Unai Emery is keen to retain his core. Given recent high-value midfield transfers—such as Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali—Arsenal can expect Villa to demand a fee exceeding £100 million.

Arsenal remain interested in Julian Alvarez, but a deal appears complex given the player's preference to stay in Spain and Barcelona's interest.
