Arsenal have reached an agreement with Club Brugge to sign Greek winger Christos Tzolis for a fee of £34 million, sources have told Sky Sports News. The transfer represents a record sale for the Belgian Pro League.
Once the 24-year-old learned of Arsenal's interest, his mind was made up. Tzolis only wanted a move to the Premier League champions.
Why Arsenal moved for Tzolis
The Arsenal forward line has been one short since Leandro Trossard completed a £17m switch to Besiktas earlier this summer. Tzolis arrives as a direct replacement, bringing proven end product from his time in Belgium.
Last season, the former Norwich City man registered 17 goals and 23 assists in just 36 league appearances – a staggering return that caught the eye of several top clubs. His versatility across the front line will give Mikel Arteta another dynamic option in attack.
Separate business from Rogers pursuit
Sky Sports News also understands that the move for Tzolis is completely independent of Arsenal's ongoing pursuit of Morgan Rogers. The Gunners remain interested in the Aston Villa forward, but the Tzolis deal does not affect negotiations.
“Once Tzolis heard that the Premier League champions were interested, he only wanted Arsenal.”
The Greek international's previous spell in England with Norwich City was underwhelming, but his development at Club Brugge has been remarkable. Arsenal are confident they are getting a much more complete player ready to shine on the biggest stage.
