Arbeloa Takes the Helm

Fulham have confirmed the appointment of Alvaro Arbeloa as their new head coach on a three-year contract. The 43-year-old Spaniard succeeds Marco Silva, who departed for Portuguese giants Benfica following the expiration of his deal at Craven Cottage.

Arbeloa arrives after a stint as manager of Real Madrid, where he was replaced by Jose Mourinho last month. He originally took over from Xabi Alonso at the Santiago Bernabeu in January.

"It is a real honour for me to be embarking on this new stage at Fulham, the oldest club in London. I feel a great sense of responsibility and I'm deeply grateful to Mr [Shahid] Khan and Tony Khan for the trust they have placed in me with Fulham in the Premier League."

Chairman Shahid Khan added: "Alvaro is, by his own admission, very ambitious. He has spent quality time around the best players, clubs and methods in the game, experiences which will serve him well here at Fulham."

Playing Career and Experience

As a player, Arbeloa made 98 appearances for Liverpool before returning to Real Madrid in 2009. He also had a spell with West Ham during the 2016/17 season, bringing Premier League experience to his new role.

Fulham's Fixtures and Expectations

Fulham will begin their Premier League campaign with a London derby at home to Chelsea on Monday, August 24, live on Sky Sports. That is followed by a trip to Sunderland on Sunday, August 30. September brings a home clash with Crystal Palace, a visit to former club Liverpool, and a meeting with Manchester United at Craven Cottage. The early schedule provides a stern test for the new boss.
