Fiorentina have officially signed Alex Jimenez on a season-long loan from Bournemouth, with an option to make the deal permanent for a reported €20 million. The move returns the Spanish defender to Serie A, where he previously impressed with AC Milan.
The Fiorentina club statement confirmed the loan agreement includes a purchase clause. Jimenez, 21, expressed his delight at the switch, saying: “They wanted me 100%, I’m happy to be here.” The deal was first reported last week, with the clubs finalising terms over the past few days.
Background and Previous Serie A Experience
Born in Leganes and a product of Real Madrid’s academy, Jimenez made his senior breakthrough during a loan spell at Milan. He went on to make 26 Serie A appearances for the Rossoneri, adding six Coppa Italia outings and two in the Supercoppa Italiana—including a winners’ medal in the 2024/25 edition. That form earned him a permanent move to Bournemouth in February 2025, initially on loan before a full transfer that tied him to the club until 2031.
Suspension Paved Way for Italy Return
Jimenez’s Bournemouth career stalled in May 2025 when the club suspended him pending an investigation into “a serious matter” relating to social media posts. According to BBC Sport, the suspension kept him out of first-team action. The Fiorentina loan allows him to resume playing while the investigation runs its course, with the Cherries wishing him well.
What It Means for Fiorentina
Fiorentina add a dynamic full-back comfortable on either flank, capable of contributing to both defensive and attacking phases. Jimenez’s familiarity with Italian football should accelerate his adaptation. If the option is triggered, he could become a long-term piece of the Viola’s defensive setup. For now, the club gains a motivated player eager to rebuild his reputation after the off-field issues.
